My name is Ayelet Haymov, and I’m running for Syms Treasurer. I’m currently a junior majoring in accounting. I believe my skills, drive, and leadership experiences both on and off campus will make me an excellent candidate for Syms Treasurer.
My first year in school, I was excited to get involved in the many different opportunities there are for Syms and Stern students on campus. During my first semester, I became Marketing Manager of the school paper. Later on that year, my friends and I began a campus fundraiser for a nonprofit organization supporting children with cancer called the Zichron Menachem Fund, which is one of my favorite things that I’ve been apart of during my time in school. Another great opportunity that Syms has to offer is peer tutoring, a program that I’m proud to be able to help out with.
Though the academic aspect of school is incredibly important, being involved with various clubs and events on campus is a great way to gain practical experience outside of the classroom. Being Treasurer would give me the opportunity to make our school a more fun and eventful place in an economically feasible way.
SCW: Describe one goal you want to accomplish for the student body and tell us how you would accomplish that goal.
As Syms Treasurer, I would like to ensure that the funds are being properly distributed for various events and giveaways for the students at Stern College. In doing so, students will have the opportunity to attend the many different events that interest them, as well as enjoy the perks of the complimentary gifts given out by the Syms Student Board.
SCW: You have planned a huge event, but you wake up the morning of the event with a migraine. How do you ensure a quality event even though you cannot personally attend?
After contacting all of the people involved in the creation of this event and informing them of my inability to attend, I would ensure a quality event by gathering a few reliable, close friends, and delegating specific tasks to each individual based on his or her ability to perform effectively. I would then make sure to maintain close contact with them throughout the day in order to assist the team in whatever way I could, and to also make sure everything is running smoothly and according to plan.
SCW: One of your clubs has two club heads. You know that one is doing all of the work and "doesn't mind," but the club really needs both heads to be on their "A-game" in order to succeed. How do you proceed?
If one of the club heads wasn’t performing to the best of her ability, I would suggest having a club meeting to discuss everyone’s standing within the club. During the meeting, the club-members would have the chance to constructively talk about what they feel would be helpful and necessary to help the others operate to their maximum potential. In this way, the club head would be able to understand her own abilities and reflect on her effectiveness within the group. If this subtle approach didn’t work, I would then speak with the other club head to discuss what she feels the rest of the team could help out with, in order to lighten her workload and enhance the club’s performance.
