SymsSC Secretary

For SymsSC Secretary...

M i c h e l l e   W i g d e r

My name is Michelle Wigder and I will be a junior in Syms next year. I am majoring in accounting and aside from being a staff writer for the school paper. I am not focusing on any other extracurricular activities next year. If I am chosen I plan to devote all of my free time to the position of Syms secretary. I am extremely organized, responsible and leadership positions suit me best. I know that if given the chance I will prove to you that I am the right choice for secretary. I am dedicated to my tasks and work well with others. I believe team work is also very important and I would love the opportunity to work with the other members of the student council to make our school a better place.

SCW: Describe one goal you want to accomplish for the student body and tell us how you would accomplish that goal.

As secretary one of the goals I plan to accomplish is to make monthly charity events each month benefiting a different organization. I have a lot of experience with this given my charity work with Shaare Tzedek and Chai Lifeline. I would work to make events that are not only to raise money for important causes but that are also enjoyable and fun for the people attending. Often charity events  are expensive and once you get there you are often disappointed with the turn-out. I will make sure the events are created in a way that they are also fun social events.

SCW: You have planned a huge event, but you wake up the morning of the event with a migraine. How do you ensure a quality event even though you cannot personally attend?

For starters I would probably still attend the event even with a headache because I am not one to let anything get in the way of my responsibilities. If as the scenario says, I am unable to attend, I would make sure everything still goes according to plan. I would make sure to make a detailed list of everything that needs to get done and delegate each task to whomever I feel is most capable of completing it. I would give clear instructions on how to get it done and I would sit by the phone available for anyone to call if they have an issue. I would then keep myself updated and make sure all the things on my list get checked off. Aside from other people on the student council I have many friends in Syms who I know would have my back and help me out if such a situation would occur.

SCW: One of your clubs has two club heads. You know that one is doing all of the work and "doesn't mind," but the club really needs both heads to be on their "A-game" in order to succeed. How do you proceed?

I would approach the club head who is not putting in the effort and nicely explain to them how important their input is. Even though the other club head seems to be doing the work and keeping things under control, how much better it would be if the other club heads input was also put in. I would explain that the other club head has a school work load as well and it is unfair to expect them to do more than their share of the work, even if they are willing to. The best results would occur if both club heads work together and each contribute their own unique ideas and skills. Each person has differing strengths and its most important for each head to bring in what they have to offer. Teamwork is very important in having the most success possible and reaching the full potential of the club.
